OPELOUSAS, La. (AP) - The superintendent of a school which the governor described as closed because of swine flu says that is wrong.
At a news conference Monday, Gov. Bobby Jindal listed Westminster Christian Academy among schools closed by the flu.
However, superintendent Merida (MER-ih-duh) Brooks says only seventh graders and their siblings are out of class. Westminster Christian remains open for about 950 students on three campuses.
Brooks says that three seventh-graders have been diagnosed with Type A flu - the category including swine flu - since the seventh grade returned Friday from a 3-day trip to Texas.
She says those 50 or so students, their brothers and sisters, and about five teachers who went on the trip have been told to stay home.
Grades one through six and eight through 12 are in class.
