Grace A. Davis, 77, formerly of Millville, died Thursday, May 7, 2009, at her home in Las Vegas with her family at her side.
Bunny, as her friends and family called her (she was born on Easter), was co-owner of Davis Furniture with her husband Bobbie for more than 50 years before their retirement. They furnished numerous homes for fire victims over those years without seeking any publicity for their charitable deeds.
Born in Philadelphia and raised in Clayton by her mother and stepfather, she was a cheerleader and field hockey player at Clayton High School. She was a Super Mensa and was invited to participate in a government program in Chicago at age 14. She was a devout Christian, and directed and produced a television special on the PTL Network in 1979. She was a writer and songwriter, being honored by the Popcorn Park Zoo and the Associated Humane Society for writing and producing the "Popcorn Park Zoo" album in 1997. She also received an accommodation letter from Al Gore the next year for her Earth Day album, "Mother Earth Is Crying." She was an avid supporter of "no kill" animal shelters. She was one of only three high-speed hypnotists in the world at age 22. She taught hypnosis and entertained at her children's parties and the local schools through the late 1960s. She had her first poem published when she was 12 years old. She was an accomplished ballroom dancer. She was always there to help the less fortunate and gave away hundreds of holiday turkeys at their store during Thanksgiving and Christmas. She was loved and admired by all who knew her, and will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
She is survived by her husband, Bobbie V. Davis of Jensen Beach, Fla.; daughters, Valerie (David) Adelman and Holly (Tom) Brady of Las Vegas; son, Gary B. Davis of Jensen Beach, Fla.; grandchildren, Amanda and Kelly Davis of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; stepgrandchildren, Lori Maddox, and Jennifer, Lauren and Michael Brady; sisters, Gail (Robert) Donaghy of Villas and Margaret Musto of Buena; and sister-in-law Millicent Salamanca of Vineland.
She was predeceased by her parents, George and Grace Thomas.
